It was opening day of the 2008 Maine deer hunting rifle season for residents only. I had gone out to my stand just up the field from my house about an hour before sunrise.

It was cold, and the wind was whipping, I saw nothing... I got down at around 9am and returned to the house and debated on where I wanted to hunt that evening. Finally about an hour before I usually go out to sit in the evening I decided to return to the same stand I was in that morning.

Good thing I did because at about 4:35 that evening out stepped a buck that I thought was only a tall 4 point. He was on a bee line for the other side of the field where there was a couple of rubs and my other stand. He stopped once and the tree to my left was in the way of the shot.

He moved again so I make shift grunted and he stopped, thats when I took off the safety and fired, he was about 150 yards away. He ran about a hundred yards and dropped, I thought I missed at first. Turns out he wasn't a 4 point, he was an 8 point -202lbs.
