Elk hunting with our trusty Thompson Centers.

Our self guided elk hunting expedition to Santa Fe National Forest/Pecos Wilderness in northern New Mexico at about 12,000 feet began with an outfitter packing us in 20 miles at around 10,000 ft and dropping us off. We were picked up 6 days later.

My hunting buddy got a 3x3 and I got a 5x5 with my T/C .50 Omega. Interesting that I found the bullet intact just under the skin on the opposite shoulder. I was using TC bonded blue tip 250 grain bullets. At 75 yards the elk dropped within 20 yards.

TC is bad to the bone! It was a grueling but great trip.
