I was in a stand overlooking a chest high field of weeds and grass and my cousin was about 200 yards to my right. I had been watching a doe walk around in front of me for 30 min and my cousin was about to get a clear shot when I decided to look to my left which I hadn't done for the whole 30 min.
This beautiful buck was 30yds in front of me and on the opposite side of the tree.
I had to grab my gun from my hook and get it up on the shooting rest, all while the buck just stood there eyeing the doe that was roughly 80 yards away.
I got on him and the only clear shot I had was at the base of the neck. I held on him for 5 min waiting for a better shot. He started to turn to walk in the opposite direction and I decided to take the neck shot, dropping him in his tracks. He scored 206 6/8, and has been entered in Boone & Crockett, Hoosier Record Book, and Long Hunter Society.
It was my gun's first hunting trip and I was getting 1/2" groups at 100yds. More photos available upon request.
Thanks TC!
