My fiance took me on my first elk hunt in northwestern Colorado. It was a do it yourself hunt on public land during Colorado's 2010 first rifle season. I chose to take my one and only gun, the Thompson/Center Triumph. It's the only gun I use for any type of gun hunting. It fits perfect and it's comfortable to shoot, not to mention its accuracy.

Opening morning we started at about 4am trekked about a mile into the Colorado mountains. It wasn't long and we could hear the bulls bugling. In the early morning darkness we got ourselves positioned between two bulls and started calling. By sunrise we had called one bull in and it wasn't long before we could here the brush crashing and the heavy breathe of bull elk.

As my fiance continued calling I got into position for the shot just in time for the bull to step into an opening about 40yds away. With shaky hands I steadied for the shot and squeezed, he dropped right in his tracks. Thanks again!
