Youth Day Hunt:: Wicomico County
11 years old
Youth day hunt started out good. My dad and I saw 12 does and a nice 7 point buck, but all were 400 plus yards away. Just as we were starting to get comfortable and settle in for a long day my Dad spotted 2 does and what we thought was the 7 point we saw earlier.
BUT as he picked his head up we realized it was a nice 10 point 335 yards away. We were using a Thompson/Center Encore 270 rifle. I have been practicing shooting my bow and gun a lot. We were comfortable with the shot and decided to take him.
I put the scope on his front shoulder and squeezed the trigger. DROPPED him in his tracks. We had to walk across the field to get him. I thought I was going to hyper ventilate on the way there. I was so excited.. When we got to him I thought I was going to pass out.
He was awesome. His rack has everything. We call him "The Unicorn Buck". He has an Unicorn tine. On the right side he also has a kicker and a drop tine. Both sides of his rack have a lot of mass..He is incredible.
He weighed over 200 ponds. They estimated his age to be between 5 and 6 years old. This has been my best hunt ever..What a great Youth day..
Thanks to my dad..
