I was on my very first hunting trip. I used my brand new T/C Impact to kill this 12 point non-typical whitetail deer that scored 143-3/8. My mentor was teaching me how to walk stealthily through the woods. When we came over small hill and I saw a doe 25 yards from me, walking along the back side of the same hill going to my right.
I readied my T/C Impact as I looked through the scope. I aimed at the doe and this large rack come into my view. This buck had come up from behind the doe that I was aiming at. I had failed to see this buck because of the terrain. As the Buck moved beside the Doe that gave me an open broadside shot on the buck. I change my target with only slight movement of my rifle. At that moment both deer stopped they had spotted my mentor who was almost 30 yards away from me.
So I pulled the trigger before they could make their escape. Even with the smoke I saw the buck drop like a stone. He never got back up.
Thanks in part to my T/C Impact and support of a good mentor.
