I was hunting with my son Ben in Harcourt, New Brunswick Canada with friends of the family who live in New Brunswick. We were hunting bears over bait during their spring season in June of 2008. Sitting in my treestand, Wed. afternoon, I watched a sow and her 2 cubs circle the bait twice before coming in to eat. After 20 mins. or so, I heard another bear cross the logging road and enter the woods behind me. It only took 5 mins. and 1 big huff from him and the sow and cubs were gone in a flash.
The boar never circled the bait. He came right in and within another 5 mins. he was 20 yds away beginning to check out the barrel. I raised my Firehawk, loaded with 100 grs of Pyrodex pellets and a 350 gr Maxi-hunter, squeezed the trigger and waited for the smoke to clear. The boar ran about 30 yds and expired behind me with a typical death moan. This bait was hot.
The very next afternoon my son shot a beautiful blaze sow using my gun with the same load. The boar was 160 lbs and the sow was 180 lbs.
