My ten day hunt with Zambeze Delta Safari in Mozambique, Africa was coming to an end.
The bushbuck was the last animal on my list and my PH and I along with my tracker, Moodoo, had spend the last several hours driving areas where the bushbuck is known to hangout. The bushbuck is similar to the whitetail deer in its habits and haunts. It is one of the most elusive animals a person will hunt in Africa.
After several hours my PH spotted a couple of bushpigs out in a pan (Africa's version of an open field). While watching the pigs I noticed movement to my right and upon closer examination I spotted a buck and doe bushbuck grazing.
My PH became very excited, saying that this was a very good animal so we exited the truck and started a stalk. We were able to move to within 125 yards of the bushbuck who up to this point had no idea we were in the area. After settling the rifle on the shooting sticks and calming myself for the shot I pulled the trigger. The animal fell in its tracks.
