It was the 3rd day of the 2009 Indiana turkey season. My buddy and I decided to float a river through the middle of a state forest in SW Indiana. The sun was up and the birds had already hit the ground.
We listened for Gobbles as we drifted silently downstream. About a half hour into the float we heard 2 gobblers on a ridge top to our right. We landed the boat. Grabbed some decoys and climbed the hillside towards the gobblers. We set up about 50 yds. apart. We took turns making a cluck, purr call. It took about 2 minutes for the big tom to show up. I was laying on the ground beside a fallen tree. He popped up about 35 yds to my left. He sensed something wrong immediately and in a second I let him have it. 27 1/2 lbs. 3 beards. 10 3/4, 9 1/2 and 5. both spurs were wore down to less than 1/2 inch . It was the 1st taken with my T/C.
