This was quite a hunt for me. I had used the internet to research a new area to hunt that was 300 miles from home. I studied topo maps, aerial photos and the weather. I would be hunting a migration area right after a big snow in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The area I would hunt contains a huge swamp that is virtually roadless once you get into it.
When I arrived to hunt this area that I had never seen before I immediately set my GPS and started hiking into the center of the swamp. I found a migration trail and followed it deeper into the swamp. About an hour before dark I decided to stop and watch the trail from the down-wind side while hiding behind a small pine. Within minutes this 10 point walked out and I downed him with one shot from 85 yards. I was using my .50 caliber T/C Firehawk that I had won in a big buck contest years earlier.
My buck had 10 points, was aged at 5-1/2 years old, and field dressed at 155 lbs. It took me four hours to get my deer back to the truck.
